“It seems we’ve said good-bye to ‘Good Morning’ to perfect strangers. It seems that most of these old courtesies are now in danger.” -Locale A.M., “Precision & Finesse”
After a 6 month absence, I felt compelled to start blogging again for a number of reasons, mainly from being inspired by one of my greatest buddies, Sir Aaron Chang.
I used to treat blogs as a way of keeping people and at many times, myself, up-to-date with the happenings of my life. I remember back from the Xanga days of writing, “So yesterday we did this, this, and this with him, her, and them.” But as we all get older and find many other ways to stay connected, we find less reason to write in such a way. Even when we do write, we do it in the form of “micro-blogging” with status updates and tweets so our messages stay fairly limited. Another reason is that as we get older, who really has the time read about what you did every single day of your life anymore? Sure, it’d be good entertainment if you really did have the time to “stalk” someone in this manner, but it would feel so much less substantial.
It was then I realized that if I were to blog again, it would be for a different reason. It would not be just to entertain, but to inspire. Let’s face it: we all think of the same things day to day. But who really addresses them and tries to draw a connection with it? And better yet, who really shares that connection with others, whether it be friends, family, or even strangers on the internet? One of the biggest perks I’ve ever had in life is meeting new people. Not just for the sake of meeting, but for the sake of connecting with them. Some call me crazy, but I live for the days when I can develop some type of connection with a total stranger. Whether it be through music, sports, or religion, it seems like these kinds of interactions are taken for granted so often in our lives. Perhaps this explains my work ethic in my profession; that I prefer retail/community pharmacy versus working hospital in-patient doing rounds with doctors. It may be stressful putting that customer service smile on every single day, but when I can make small-talk and find some common ground with the patients I see and counsel, it makes it all worth it.
And perhaps this blog is just another avenue I can use to make things “all worth it.” A friend once told me that I have a “sh** ton of friends.” Although I do know quite a lot of people, I can’t say that I’ve connected with many of them on an emotional or personal level. Often times, if I have never confided in someone with the matters of my heart, I can never truly call someone my good and personal friend. But if this page can somehow serve as a way for someone to know me on those levels, whether it’s through my posts, art, or music, I am fulfilled.
great re-start bro!
good thing i’ve connected with you on a personal, emotional AND sexual level.
